The idea of "christian health insurance" and "christian medical insurance" seems to have gained a great deal of increased popularity in recent years, especially with the start of the Affordable Care Act - also known as Obamacare. The main reason we can see is that the high price of healthcare has made lots of Americans seek alternatives. As far as we know there are not any companies that are true "insurance" companies that offer "Christian Health Insurance". There are though a hand full of companies that pay Google and Bing/Yahoo by means of pay per click (PPC) for the names of their websites to be found when someone types into google certain keywords. You can see in the image below, the results when a google search is performed for the entered term = christian health insurance. The companies seen here paying Google to be found when people are searching for christian health insurance are Liberty Health Share, Medi-Share, Healthy Halo Insurance Services and MedicalCostShare.com that is stated to be "MedicalCostShare.com is proud to be an authorized Liberty HealthShare Member Sponsor". Of the companies that have placed the advertisements in Google, only one is an insurance company and by looking at their website they are not a "Christian Based" health insurance company. The others are 501C3 Non Profit Organizations that are classified as "Health Sharing Ministries" So what are these companies doing advertising and wanting their websites to be found for the term "christian health insurance"? Are they advertising as christian health insurance? That I feel is in the hands of the person looking at it and there certainly can be case made for that point of view. In our opinion though, these companies are just smart marketers. They are trying to get their website found based upon "search volume" statistics that are available for online marketing professionals. When you examine these companies websites they clearly state that they are NOT health insurance companies multiple times. Our opinion is that these are good companies, trying to help others and get their websites found by as many people as possible. We have also entered an image showing companies wanting to be found by paying google for the search term "christian medical insurance"
We also are a health sharing ministry. We do not pay Google or other search engine to advertise us as "christian health insurance". We are Medical Cost Sharing Inc. another NON INSURANCE 501C3 non profit health sharing ministry that offers some different plans than the others. We would like you to check out more about our plans and compare us to the other options that are out there.
The Christian community has always looked out for each other, but many times these lines have been divided among religions: Catholics have been more prone to look out for other Catholics and Lutherans have looked out for other Lutherans and so on. Health insurance for Christians seems to be an area that can unite all Christians… which is a great thing as far as I am concerned. There seems to be multiple reasons why individuals, families and businesses have looked into a Christian approach to health care. In my mind I can actually divide these people into groups and look at a common thread as to why they have joined. One group is those that are very strong Christians and just want to care of other like-minded Christians. The second group is the Anti Obama Care group that just doesn’t want the government dictating to them what they can do and what they can’t do as far as health care goes: they are very aware of the history of mismanagement with Medicare and Medicaid and other federally and state-run programs. I think the largest group that is emerging though is a growing group that is being caught up in what we like to term the “Health Insurance Bubble”. These are people that have recently been “forced” to look for alternate forms of health coverage because of the SHOCKING increases in the cost of health care in recent years. Added to this is the unfortunate fact that many businesses that offered health benefits for their employees could no longer afford to do so. It’s not a matter of business profitability but business survival. So you, the employee, lose your employee plan and are forced to purchase Unaffordable Care provided by the government insurance marketplace.
Oh, let’s not forget that the government has also MANDATED that every citizen MUST have health insurance or they will be fined! The fines have been small in recent years but are anticipated to get higher annually. Without a doubt the number of people turning to a Christian health insurance alternative will continue to grow as long as these laws continue to be enforced by the federal government and the health insurance bubble continues to drive up health care costs.
